One of the most common difficulties when browsing property and vehicle listings across different countries is that prices are published in different currencies. When one listing uses euros and another uses Macedonian denars, Turkish lira, Albanian lek or Serbian dinars, comparing the available options can become difficult. Users may have to search for an exchange rate and perform a separate calculation for every listing.
The ReBALKAN multi-currency system makes currency conversion a natural part of the platform. The original amount and currency selected by the advertiser remain protected, while visitors can view an approximate equivalent in their preferred supported currency.
What is the ReBALKAN multi-currency system?
ReBALKAN is not presenting this feature as a foreign-exchange trading service or payment system. The system allows property and vehicle prices to be stored in different currencies, compared through a common value and displayed in the currency selected by the visitor.
An advertiser may enter the price of an apartment in euros, a vehicle in Macedonian denars or another listing in Turkish lira. ReBALKAN preserves that original commercial information. When a visitor selects another display currency, the platform calculates an approximate equivalent using the available exchange-rate data.
Which currencies are supported?
The current ReBALKAN multi-currency infrastructure actively supports:
- EUR – Euro
- MKD – Macedonian denar
- TRY – Turkish lira
- RSD – Serbian dinar
- ALL – Albanian lek
- BAM – Bosnia and Herzegovina convertible mark
- RON – Romanian leu
The multi-country architecture allows additional currencies to be introduced in a controlled manner as ReBALKAN expands into new markets.
Why is the original listing price preserved?
An exchange-rate estimate is not the same as the price defined by an advertiser. As currency rates can change, ReBALKAN permanently preserves the currency and original amount used when the listing was created.
If a property is listed for 100,000 EUR, that value does not change simply because a visitor selects Turkish lira or Macedonian denars. The platform only displays an approximate equivalent of 100,000 EUR in the selected currency. Visitors receive a more understandable reference without altering the listing’s original commercial information.
Approximate price and original price
When the visitor’s selected currency differs from the listing currency, ReBALKAN identifies the converted amount as an approximate price. The amount entered by the advertiser remains available as the original price.
This distinction is important because the calculated value is provided for information and initial comparison. Before a sale, rental or payment, the parties should independently confirm the current exchange rate, payment currency and commercial terms.
How do users change the display currency?
Visitors can open the currency section in the ReBALKAN menu and choose one of the supported currencies. Eligible listing prices are then displayed using the selected currency.
The preference of an anonymous visitor can be retained for later visits on the same device. For signed-in users, the preference can also be associated with the account. This creates a more consistent price-viewing experience across the platform.
How do price filters work across currencies?
A professional multi-currency system must do more than replace the symbol displayed beside a number. Listings entered in different currencies must also be filtered and sorted using a consistent calculation method.
ReBALKAN compares prices through a common euro-based value. When users enter minimum and maximum prices in their selected currency, these filter values can be converted into the common value. Listings originally entered in euros, denars, lira, lek or dinars can therefore be included in the same price search more consistently.
Ascending and descending price sorting also uses the common comparison value. This helps prevent incorrect ordering caused by comparing raw numbers that belong to different currencies.
Multi-currency property listings
Prices for apartments, houses, villas, land, offices and commercial properties may be expressed in different currencies depending on the country, market and advertiser. Cross-border buyers can also encounter both euro-denominated and local-currency listings in the same location.
Alongside total sale or rental prices, ReBALKAN can make supported price-per-square-metre information easier to understand in the selected currency. This provides a stronger basis for comparing properties of different sizes.
Comparing vehicle prices
Different currencies are also common in vehicle markets because of imported cars, local sales and cross-border buyers. A vehicle offered in euros cannot be compared accurately with a locally priced vehicle by looking only at their raw numeric values.
ReBALKAN can order vehicle prices through a common value and display them in the visitor’s preferred supported currency. Users can therefore review more options without performing a separate manual calculation for every vehicle.
How are exchange rates managed?
Exchange rates can be scanned from the ReBALKAN administration panel, compared with existing database values and updated through a controlled process. Depending on the currency, the system uses sources such as the European Central Bank, relevant official central banks and official fixed exchange-rate arrangements.
The euro acts as the common reference currency. The official fixed euro parity is used for the Bosnia and Herzegovina convertible mark, while the other supported currencies can be obtained from suitable official sources. The source rate date and the time at which data was transferred to ReBALKAN are tracked separately.
Does an exchange-rate update change the listing?
No. Updating a currency rate does not modify the amount defined by the advertiser. A listing created at 5,000,000 MKD remains 5,000,000 MKD after a rate update. Only its approximate equivalent in euros, Turkish lira or another supported currency may be recalculated.
This approach protects data integrity and prevents the platform from changing an advertiser’s original commercial price because of exchange-rate movements.
A practical benefit for cross-border users
ReBALKAN aims to bring users from different countries and language communities into a shared marketplace. Its multilingual listing architecture reduces the language barrier, while the multi-currency system makes prices easier to understand and compare.
A user in Türkiye can evaluate a listing in Macedonia through Turkish lira, a user in Albania can view a euro-denominated listing through lek, and a user in Serbia can obtain an approximate dinar value. Each user can make a faster initial assessment using a familiar currency.
A fast and understandable experience
Currency conversion is integrated into ReBALKAN’s simple and fast user experience. Visitors do not have to open another exchange-rate website, copy the listing price and calculate the result manually. Their selected currency can be used directly on supported pages.

More countries and currencies in the future
The current infrastructure is not a temporary solution created merely to replace currency symbols. Currency codes, symbols, names in four languages, exchange values, data sources and update dates are managed separately.
This architecture makes it possible to add more currencies as ReBALKAN enters additional markets. A new currency can be activated after its reliable source, validation process and display rules are prepared.
